Matrimandir Auroville:

This is one of the most important tourist places near Puducherry. This place is situated in Viluppuram district in Tamil Nadu and some portion of this is in Puducherry India. The purpose of Auroville is to realize human unity. This city is named after Sri Aurobindo.  About 20 square kilometers of barren wasteland was chosen to develop this world city. It was inaugurated in 1968 and was attended by 128 nations.

Matrimandir Auroville visiting Timing:  09:00 AM to 05:00 PM  (every day)

Best time to visit: All time. During the summer it's very hot.

Entry Fees: No entry fee but to visit the Inner chamber (09.30 AM to 10.45 AM), prior booking is mandatory.

Parking Places: Huge parking is available on a pay and uses basis. Better to use local autos or taxi to visit different places.

 

How to reach Auroville: 

Indian Rail: Viluppuram is the nearest railway station which is 35 km from Puducherry. It is well connected with Indian major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkatta, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, etc.

 

Buses: The nearest bus station is Puducherry. There are not many buses to Auroville so better to hire taxis which are available easily with reasonable charges. 

  

Airport: The nearest airport is Puducherry which is 8 km from Auroville. Many Indian cities are connected through it.

 

Private Taxis: The availability of a private taxi or transportation is very good there.
