Kalighat Kali temple @ Kolkatta (West Bengal) by Drifter Baba

Kalighat Kali temple (Shakti Pithas):

Kalighat Kali temple is the Hindu temple dedicated to the goddess Kali. It is one of the Shakti Peethas among 51 in India.

Shakti Peethas are the place where Maa Sati's (Shiva's wife) body part or ornaments has fallen in the course of Shiva's Tandava. Here in Kalighat Kali temple, maa Sati's toes of the right foot have fallen.

This temple is situated at the bank of a small canal called Adi Ganga which joins the Hugli river (Ganga/Bhagirathi). The structure of the temple is just 200 years old but the importance of the place is since yogas.

This is one of the very important religious tourist places in Kolkatta & in India. People perform Durga Saptsati chanting inside the temple campus.

Temple Visiting Timing:  05:00 AM to 02:00 PM & 5:00 PM to 10:30 PM (All Day)

Best time to visit: All time. During the summer it's very hot.

Entry Fees:  No entry fee for Darshan but Purohits or local agents take money illegally for fast darshan. There is no fixed amount and they charge as per their convenience. They are open to bargaining.

If you want to perform certain rituals, again there are no fixed charges and purohits (priest) charges as per their convenience. I feel the temple authority should fix the charges for different rituals for the convenience of devotees.
