Daulatabad Fort @ Daulatabad (Maharashtra)

 

Daulatabad Fort: 

Daulatabad Fort was known as Devagiri or Deogiri before the 13th Century. The Fort was built by the Yadava Dynasty in around 1187 by the first Yadava king Bhillama. 

 It was captured by the Mughals and in 1327, Muhammad bin Tughluq renamed it from Devagiri to Daulatabad and shifted his Imperial Capital from Delhi to Daulatabad. He also ordered the mass migration of people from Delhi to Dauatabad. He continued his capital till 1334 (7 years) and later changed his decision and shifted back his Capital from Daulatabad to Delhi again. Later it was a secondary capital of the Ahmadnagar Sultanate during 1499–1636.

It has a very high historical connection and one of the most important tourist destinations in Maharashtra. It is situated in Aurangabad District in Maharashtra. It's around 17 km from Aurangabad on the way to Ellora Caves State Highway 22. It is a must-visit place if you like historical places to visit.

Best time to visit: All time. During the summer, it's very hot.

 

Entry Fees:  You have to pay Rs. 10.00 / Each for Indians & Rs. 100.00 for foreign nationals.

Parking Places: Huge parking place is available near the main gate. In a certain place, they charge for parking but in some places, it is free. I prefer to pay and park as it gives safety to vehicles. 

How to reach Daulatabad Fort: 

By Air: The nearest airport is in Aurangabad (Maharashtra) which is around 25 km from the Fort. You can hire taxis from there or you can take public transport from Aurangabad to reach the Daulatabad Fort.

By Rail: The main railway station is in Aurangabad (Maharashtra) which is 17 km from the Daulatabad Fort. It is well connected with other Indian cities. You can catch buses or private taxis from Aurangabad to reach here.

Buses: The nearest main bus stand is in Aurangabad. You can find multiple buses from different places like Mumbai, Pune, Shirdi, Nashik, etc. 

Private Taxis/ Autos: You will not find Taxis or Autos very easily there. Better to reserve it either from Ellora or Aurangabad and use it during your tour.

You will not find accommodation near Daulatabad Fort. You will find many lodges or hotels in the 15 km range either in Ellora or in Aurangabad.

 

Food & Restaurant near Daulatabad Fort:

In front of Fort main gate, few restaurants or food center is available. You will find a limited menu but it's good.
