Har ki Pauri is a very famous ghat at the holy Ganga river in Haridwar a district town in Uttarakhand state. It was built by King Vikramaditya in 1 century BC in the memory of his brother Bharthari as he was a great devotee of maa Ganga and use to visit for everyday meditation.

Below are some of the facts about Har Ki Pauri
  • Har means Lord Shivs and Pauri means Spets. It is believed to be Lord Shivas steps and that's the reason people worship Ganga as well as all the steps.
  • It is known as Brahmkund as many gods including Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva had taken bath in Ganga here. 
  • A drop of Amrita was fallen here from the sky while Lord Garuda was carrying it after Samudra Manthan. People consider Gangajal as Amrith and take it to their home.
  • Mahakumbh is being celebrated there every 12 years and Ardh Kumbh every 6 years.
  • This is the place where Ganga has come to the plain from the mountain.
  • Ganga aarty during evening is one of the most attractive activities there.
