India Gate @ New Delhi:
The India Gate is a war memorial Situated on Raj Path in New Delhi. It is also called Kingsway. It is a memorial to 70,000 soldiers of the British Indian Army who died between 1914 and 1921 in multiple wars like the First world war, Mesopotamia, Persia, Africa, etc. 13,300 serviceman names including some soldiers and officers from the United Kingdom are inscribed on the Indi Gate.
Before starting the Republic day parade, the Indian Prime Minister first visit the Amar Jawan Jyoti which is next to India Gate, and pay their tribute.
The gate was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and it is always compared with other similar type gates like
- The Arch of Constantine in Rome (Italy)
- Arc de Triomphe in Paris (France)
- Gateway of India in Mumbai (India).
This is one of the famous tourist destinations in New Delhi. Ideal for 4 to 6 hours where you can look around India Gate and enjoy street food and Ice creams. People spend their time till late at night also. Please visit the place and enjoy the moment.
