Arulmigu Arunachalesvara Temple: 

Arunachalesvara Temple also called as Annamalaiyar Temple is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located at the base of Arunachala Hill. 

It is one of the five temples associated with five elements (Pancha Bhoota) that are Prithvi, Aakash, Vayu, Agni, Jal.  This temple belongs to Agni elements. Here Shiva Linga is known as Agni Linga.

There are many temples inside the campus but Shiva and Parvati temple is the main attraction there.

A Festival called The Karthigai Deepam is celebrated every year during the day of the full moon between November and December. A Huge beacon is lit atop the hill which can be seen from a far distance. It symbolizes the Shiva lingam of fire joining the sky.

This temple was initially constructed during Chola Dynasty in the 9th Century and then developed further during Vijaynagara rules in the 13th Century.

This is one of the most famous spiritual tourist destinations in Tamil Nadu along with many more destinations around it. Please visit the place and feel it.

5:30 AM - 12:30 PM & 3:30 PM - 9:30 PM Everyday


Best time to visit: All time. During summer, it is a bit hot.

Entry Fees:  No entry fee for general darshan. You have to pay only if you want to perform special rituals. For each ritual, different charges have been fixed by the authorities.

Parking Places: Finding a parking place near the temple is very tough. Temple is located in the middle of the city and due to heavy traffic, No Parking board is there everywhere. Beter to Auto Rikshaw or Taxis for a local visit.

Airport: The nearest airport is Puducherry Airport which is 107 km from Thiruvannamalai. The airport is well connected with major Indian airports. You will find many taxis or buses from Puducherry to Thiruvannamalai.

Indian Rail: The nearest railway station is in Thiruvannamalai which is well connected with the major Railway station in India. You will find many auto-rickshaw outside the railway station.

Buses: The nearest bus station is in Thiruvannamalai which is well connected with major nearby cities. You will find many auto-rickshaw near the bus stand.
